Hosta 'Komodo Dragon'
|
Hosta 'Liberty' PP#12,531
|
| Hosta 'Key West' is a cross between Hosta nigrescens 'Elatior' and 'High Noon'. The bright gold, heart-shaped leaves are very large and form a clump of foliage that when mature will reach over six feet across. Bright filtered shade draws out the most intense gold coloration. Lavender flowers top the clump in early summer. A choice selection. |
NEW! (B. Sligh, 2000) M-L This vigorous sport of 'Striptease' looks like its parent, but has deeper blue-green margins. The center of the leaf changes from chartreuse to creamy-yellow to ivory over the season, and occasionally a thin white line peeks through where the leaf center and margin meet. Pale lavender funnel-shaped flowers top the clump in midsummer. A rapid grower. Great specimen plant. Attention getter! |
(M. Seaver, NR) L This Mildred Seaver introduction has been gaining in popularity lately. Whether because of its name or durable constitution, 'Komodo Dragon' forms a large mound (to seven feet!) of heart-shaped gray-green leaves. Pale lavender flowers open in early summer. A good variety for the back of the border or specimen use. |
(J. Machen, Jr., 2000) M-L This sport of 'Sagae', features a wider, more dramatic border, especially noticeable on younger plants. The leaves are thicker than 'Sagae' indicating its probability of being a polyploid. Like 'Sagae' the yellow margin fades to creamy-white later in the season. Lavender flowers top the clump in early summer. Cannot ship outside North America. Asexual propagation prohibited without a license.

(E. Kinneman, 2007) M This very unusual sport of 'Dance With Me', features rounded leaves with a very wide green edge. Prominent shirring (leaf gathering) of narrow mango-yellow design appears in leaf center. Folks are touting this as the reverse-variegation of 'Stitch in Time'. Lavender flowers in midsummer. Special! Choice!
|
(J. Hawes, NR) M The elongated heart-shaped leaves of 'Marilyn Monroe' are accented by a beautiful ruffled edge. Red leaf petioles and flower scapes are complimented by nice lavender flowers in late summer. For use as a specimen plant or in the Japanese garden where the quiet beauty of habit and form may be appreciated. A lasting tribute from hosta collector and friend, James Hawes. |
(NR) VS Hosta 'Masquerade' is a perfect choice for the front of the shaded rock garden or trough gardens. It forms clumps of tiny white centered leaves edged by a green margin. Purple flowers top the clumps in summer. A flashy hosta sure to capture the attention of the miniature hosta collector. |

Hosta 'Millennium'
|
Hosta 'Mississippi Delta'
|
Hosta 'Miss Ruby'
|
| (Shady Oaks Nursery/H. Hansen, 1999) S-M 'May' is the golden form of 'June'. It has the same growth habit and heavy substance as its famous parent. Like 'June', the intensity of its color depends on light. Brighter light is required to draw out a rich gold coloration. More shade produces a chartreuse color. 'May' adds a splash of sunshine to the front of the woodland border. Lavender flowers top the clump in late summer. |
NEW! (J. & J. Wilkins, 1995) L This cross between 'Herb Benedict' x 'Sagae' makes a huge (36-inch x 80-inch) mound of large, dark blue, round, heavily substance leaves. With its good growth rate and heat tolerance, it makes an outstanding specimen plant for the back of the garden. Near white flowers top the clump in late June. |
(O. Petryszyn, 1998) L 'Mississippi Delta' features large blue-gray leaves displayed horizontally. The deeply impressed veins terminate at the leaf base and reminded the breeder of the delta of the great river. The magnificent hosta can reach 5 feet and is topped by scapes of white flowers that branch on mature plants. Impressive. |
(A. Wrede, 2005) S This new release from Arthur Wrede of the Azalea Patch features wedge-shaped green leaves with nice dark red petioles, with the red pigment extending up into the leaf blade. A pretty plant for hosta hybridizers and collectors who covet red stems in their breeding programs and gardens. A recent award winner at the Hosta First Look competition. |
