Hosta
Hosta 'Key Lime Pie'
Hosta 'Key West'
Hosta 'King Tut'
Hosta 'Komodo Dragon'
(H. Hansen/Shady Oaks Nursery, 2003) L This sport of 'Squash Casserole' features nice green leaves with a wide yellow edge. The heavily ruffled leaves are held horizontally, which produces a wide, flat-mounded plant. Pale lavender flowers top the clump in late summer. 'Key Lime Pie' is a vigorous grower. (O. Petryszyn, 1999) L 'Key West' a member of Olga's "Americana Series," is a cross between H. nigrescens 'Elatior' and 'High Noon'. The bright gold, heart-shaped leaves are very large and form a clump of foliage that when mature will reach over six feet across. Bright filtered shade draws out the most intense gold coloration. Lavender flowers top the clump in early summer. A choice selection. (G. Harshbarger, 1981) S An outstanding bright gold hosta! 'King Tut' exhibits flat heart-shaped leaves with deeply impressed veins. White bell-shaped flowers occur in mid summer. A H. Tokudama Aureonebulosa' hybrid. (M. Seaver, NR) L This Mildred Seaver introduction has been gaining in popularity lately. Whether because of its name or durable constitution, 'Komodo Dragon' forms a large mound (to seven feet!) of heart-shaped gray-green leaves. Pale lavender flowers open in early summer. A good variety for the back of the border or specimen use.
Hosta 'Lederhosen'
Hosta 'Liberty' PP#12,531
Hosta 'Limey Lisa'
Hosta 'Lonesome Dove' PP#17,294
(Benedict, NR) M Hosta 'Lederhosen' is one of the late Dr. Benedict's recent introductions. Thick elongated leaves have a wavy margin and form a nice mound-shaped plant. Beautiful fragrant lavender flowers are as pretty as any hosta and open in late summer. (J. Machen, Jr., 2000) M-L The sensation of the 2000 Hosta Convention stopping everyone in their tracks was this sport of the beloved 'Sagae'. 'Liberty' features a wider, more dramatic border, especially noticeable on younger plants. The leaves are thicker than 'Sagae' indicating its probability of being a polyploid. Like 'Sagae' the yellow margin fades to creamy-white later in the season. Lavender flowers top the clump in early summer. Asexual propagation prohibited without a license.

(W.Zumbar, NR) Mini The chartreuse-lime leaves of 'Limey Lisa' add a different color to the hosta collection. With its small size and compact habit it is a nice addition to the rock garden or front of the shady border. Lavender flowers top the clump in early summer.

(H. Hansen/Shady Oaks Nursery, Registration Pending) M This 'Blue Moon' hybrid features cupped blue-green leaves with a creamy-white interior. Pale lavender flowers top the heavily-substanced leaves in midsummer. For specimen use in light to filtered shade. Asexual propagation prohibited without a license.

Hosta 'Love Pat'
Hosta 'Marilyn Monroe'
Hosta 'Masquerade'
Hosta 'May'
(P. Aden, 1978) M This choice variety features thick blue leaves with a quilted texture. Pale lavender flowers top the clump in early summer. 'Love Pat' makes an excellent specimen plant, and is a cornerstone of every hosta collection. A classic! (J. Hawes, NR) M The elongated heart-shaped leaves of 'Marilyn Monroe' are accented by a beautiful ruffled edge. Red leaf petioles and flower scapes are complimented by nice lavender flowers in late summer. For use as a specimen plant or in the Japanese garden where the quiet beauty of habit and form may be appreciated. A lasting tribute from hosta collector and friend, James Hawes. (NR) Mini Hosta 'Masquerade' is a perfect choice for the front of the shaded rock garden or trough gardens. It forms clumps of tiny white centered leaves edged by a green margin. Purple flowers top the clumps in summer. A flashy hosta sure to capture the attention of the miniature hosta collector. (H. Hansen/Shady Oaks Nursery, 1999) S-M Hosta 'May' is the golden form of 'June'. It has the same growth habit and heavy substance as its famous parent. Like 'June', the intensity of its color depends on light. Brighter light is required to draw out a rich gold coloration. More shade produces a chartreuse color. 'May' adds a splash of sunshine to the front of the woodland border. Lavender flowers top the clump in late summer.
Hosta 'Medusa'
Hosta 'Midas Touch
Hosta 'Mississippi Delta'
Hosta 'Miss Ruby'
(R. Herold, 1993) Mini-S One of the favorites of the popular class of miniature hostas is Roy Herold's intriguing 'Medusa'. Twelve inch wide clumps feature long wavy yellow leaves edged with a green margin. Lavender flowers top the clump in early summer. Great for the shady rock garden. (P. Aden, 1978) M This early Aden hybrid has intensely cupped and puckered leaves, characteristic of its 'Tokudama' background. The plant may need some sun to retain its radiant gold center especially in northern climates. White flowers top the clump in midsummer. (O. Petryszyn, 1998)  L  Olga's 'Mississippi Delta' features large blue-gray leaves displayed horizontally.  The deeply impressed veins terminate at the leaf base and reminded the breeder of the delta of the great river.  The magnificent hosta can reach 5 feet and is topped by scapes of white flowers that branch on mature plants.  Impressive.  (A. Wrede, 2005) S This new release from Arthur Wrede of the Azalea Patch features wedge-shaped green leaves with nice dark red petioles, with the red pigment extending up into the leaf blade. A pretty plant for hosta hybridizers and collectors who covet red stems in their breeding programs and gardens. A recent award winner at the Hosta First Look competition.
Hosta 'Miss Tokyo'
Hosta montana 'Aureomarginata'
Hosta 'Moonstruck'
Hosta 'Mount Tom'
(H. Gowen/H. Hansen, 2004) L Of all of Hideko Gowen's stunning hosta introductions, 'Miss Tokyo' is the largest and most majestic. Large dark green leaves are edged with a wide creamy-white margin. Pale lavender flowers open in early summer. A fine selection, named in honor of her Japanese heritage. (A.H.S., 1987) L This large hosta displays arching wedge shaped green leaves sporting irregular margins of yellow which turn to cream as the season progresses. Pale lavender flowers midsummer. One of the most admired forms in the shady landscape. It is outstanding used as a specimen or as a background planting. (W. Zumbar, NR) S  Hosta 'Moonstruck' has the reverse variegation pattern of 'Dress Blues'.  Its long narrow white leaves are framed by a narrow blue edge.  'Moonstruck' has an incredible growth rate for the amount of white in its leaves. (W. & E. Lachman, 1995) M-L Of all the many fine hostas Eleanor Lachman introduced, 'Mount Tom' would be at the top of the list. The intense blue leaves have a wide creamy-white margin. Pale lavender flowers appear in early summer. A classy hosta, sure to become a favorite.
